Cinema both dark and disturbing descends upon Maine once again in the form of the 9th annual Damnationland film showcase, returning to local theaters this October before traveling on to festivals and conventions around the globe. Damnationland kicks off this year’s festivities at The State Theatre, as is tradition, with a special premiere screening on Friday, October 12th.
This year’s harvest of Maine-based art includes short features by Shannon Meserve, Mark Hensley, Jeremy Kasten & Fred Greenhalgh, Mariah Klapatch, Samuel James, and E.C. Gregg, with an interstitial narrative by Mackenzie Bartlett. This year, over half of the films in Damnationland’s program were directed by female-identifying filmmakers.
