Dark cinema descends upon Maine once again in the form of the 8th annual Damnationland film showcase, returning to local theaters this October before traveling on to festivals and conventions around the globe. The event’s first stop is the State Theatre in Portland, where Damnationland will kick off this year’s festivities with the premiere scheduled on the auspicious date of Friday the 13th. An official afterparty will continue the fiendishly fun proceedings, where filmgoers will have a chance to meet the filmmakers, cast, and crew members from this year’s deliciously morbid works.
This year’s crop of Maine-based talent includes short features by Mackenzie Bartlett, Tadin Brown, Alexander Balzano & Ellis Ducharme, Alex Steed, and Charlotte Warren, with interstitial segments between each piece by Derek R. Brigham, Julia Haltof, Stacey Koloski, Shannon Meserve, Melissa Salmi, and Clark Shepard.
This year, we are adding an international film competition to our annual get-down. Damnationland will be featuring independent films from across the world for the first time. No longer contained to the borders of Maine, Damnationland is now opening up a few precious slots to filmmakers from around the world. Screenings will be held at the beautiful Mechanic’s Hall, in downtown Portland at 519 Congress Street. Come view films from around the world Starting at 10am on October 14th, and continue into the evening, with an after-party at 10pm sponsored by Oxbow Beer.
Now in its 8th year, Damnationland began as an invitational Maine-based short genre film fest. We work hard to feature the best filmmakers and films from Maine. Our premiere event draws over 800 excited film fans to the beautiful State Theater in Portland every year in early October. The program then tours to all over Maine before moving on to festivals and other screenings around the world. We have screened from Ohio to Singapore, with a couple stops between.
DVDs, CDs, and merchandise are available at all Bull Moose retail locations as well as online via Bandcamp. Retail items will also be on sale at the 2017 Damnationland premiere on Friday, October 13th at the State Theatre in Portland.
